The 7faiths site is a collection of observations, notes on religion, mysticism and related philosophical issues.
In all the major religions of the world, the underlying message is the same: Man is created in the image of God and there is a spark of divinity in man, whether it is called Buddha consciousness, higher consciousness, khrishna/christ consciousness, Atman or Tao.
There are perhaps even more things that unite the world’s religious traditions than there are things that divide them. One unifying factor is the meaning of the spoken (or chanted) word (mantra, prayer, bhajan, etc.).
Another is the element of mysticism. According to Wikipedia (finnish version), mysticism is defined as “a way of life that seeks to achieve direct contact with God, an ultimate reality or spiritual truth.” All world religions contain this mystical goal of life.
In many if not all of these religious traditions there is an esoteric and exoteric element, mystical and doctrinal. I am interested in the concrete experience. All religions contain also practical teaching on how to achieve it.
One example of a mystical experience is the experience of spiritual fire. This experience need not be a random phenomenon that happens only to the “chosen few”, but I believe it can be attainable for anyone.
